Looking back, my weekend consisted solely of working at the station, trying to find Jackie a job, playing Pogo’s First Class Solitaire and sleeping.
I know I fit eating in there somewhere as well.
I woke up today at a little before 5am, after sleeping for about 12 hours. It’s nice to be awake, but in the process I made myself a little late to work. It’s a good thing Blair was so cool about it. (Thanks Blair!) That being said, I haven’t slept for that long in what seems like forever. Even when I have a solid day COMPLETELY off, I still usually end up only sleeping about 8-9 hours. So it’s a little weird – it feels like I completely wasted time that I could’ve used to clean up the house, spend some quality time with Jackie… that sort of thing.
Speaking of Jackie, that reminds me. Right when I had fallen asleep, I did so on the couch. Apparently I kept, err… “not breathing”, sleep apnea-style. So much so that Jackie got a little scared.
She woke me up and made me take allergy medication, which helped out a LOT. However, it’s kind of the last straw for me, as far as putting off working out. I’m sure being overweight isn’t helping with my allergies, and I also have a hunch that I have sleep apnea even without me being ridiculously allergic to our kitty. Either way, I need to start taking my health seriously. Starting with getting back into working out regularly, and also going to see the doctor for a check-up. (I haven’t stepped foot inside a doctor’s office for myself since… 2002 maybe?)
Saturday was one of the more awesome days I’ve had in recent memory. (Other than the whole waking up at 4am to be to work at 5am thing.) Jackie and I spent the whole afternoon walking around Boca Park, getting job apps so she can get a job somewhere down there. It was easily the most beautiful day since winter started, and Boca Park is a pretty nice place to walk around. Jackie got a couple leads, and we ate at Baja Fresh – my favorite Mexican place in town. (For those of you who have one around – try their new “Beef & Potato Burrito” and tell me it doesn’t taste like Chili Cheese Fries in a tortilla. You can’t, because it totally does.) We seriously ended up walking for about 3 hours, and ended the trek by driving down the street and dropping off a couple more apps at Barnes & Noble (which I started calling “B&N” for no apparent reason) and Walgreens. It was nice to be out of the apartment for a reason other than work, and also help Jackie out all the while.
On that note, we’re still having trouble finding her a job. I have all the confidence in the world that she’ll score something this week, though.
She’s put in somewhere between 20-30 applications, and something’s BOUND to pay off.
I do feel bad for one thing that happened this weekend – Saturday, the first stop we made before Boca Park was to the GameStop around the corner, because I wanted to see if they’d hire me on part-time. I ended up setting up an interview for Sunday. I went in yesterday, and after an interview (that consisted mostly of the manager telling me his life story, it seemed) I had part-time hours. I just have to go in Thursday and fill out some paperwork – then they’ll start putting me on the schedule for 1-2 nights a week. So, in the span of two days, I got a PT job, where Jackie’s tried for a week now and had nothing. (Save for an interview at Target that didn’t go anywhere because they didn’t have a position for her.) She got down about it yesterday, and I feel completely responsible.
Today is a new day, at the beginning of a new work week. I’m feeling good about it. Oh yeah – happy Martin Luther King (Jr.) Day. This country has come an AMAZINGLY long way since the days of public segregation, and that makes me a happy camper. Would MLK be happy if he were alive today? I’m not sure. Maybe. “The Boondocks” had a pretty funny spin on it, though. If you haven’t seen it, check it out.
I should get back to doing my job. Since it’s Monday (even though it *is* a holiday), I’m guessing that I have a grip more listeners since I’m essentially on during Mark & Mercedes’ normal time. Maybe I should try sounding better than normal.
