You took too damn long!

So, maybe it’s just in this cluster – but has anyone else noticed a surge in using old-school sung jingles for radio spots lately?  I somewhat know the reason for it here (an agreement between a off-site production house and our sales staff), and I can’t STAND it.  Mostly because 90% of the jingles are HORRIBLE.  For example, one of the ones we play now is for Las Vegas Half-Off.com.  The jingle?  A drone-like voice singing “It’s the bomb/Las Vegas Half Off Dot Com/It’s the bomb/Las Vegas Half Off Dot Com” over and over for 20 seconds.  Who approved that?  Who thought that it was even a novel idea?  (Who didn’t realize that the phrase “the bomb” has been dead since the late 90’s?)

Another one that we were airing (not anymore, thankfully) was a cringingly 80’s sounding full-sing for the Las Vegas Women’s Fair.  The spot was actually so bad that our head of sales (the person who okayed the spot) caught a massive amount of shit for it from everyone in the building.  For weeks.  I thought that after that whole disaster we’d stop hearing the jingles… but apparently not.  I guess the best course of action is just to ignore ‘em.

Today I’m feeling about 80% better, as far as the whole cold thing goes.  I guess 12 hours of sleep helped out more than I thought it would.

Last night I finally sold off my copy of Rock Band, and all the equipment that goes with it.  It was kind of a hard decision to make – I LOVE Rock Band.  Always will.  I’ll probably end up buying Rock Band 2 somewhere down the road, to be honest.  For now though, the damn band set had been sitting in my closest for upwards of 6 months.  We never play it.  So I figured someone out there would get more use out of it.  I sold it to this couple on Craigslist who were really, REALLY excited when they picked it up.  Made me really happy.  Also made me $100 richer.

I walked over to Gamestop and instantly picked up Fallout 3, a game I’ve been wanting to play since it came out.  Sat last night and played it for close to 6 hours, and it doesn’t even feel like I’ve scratched the surface.  I’m already sure it’s going to be a game that I play through a couple times – there are so many different choices you can make to decide the outcome of the game.  I love it.  Definitely has me eyeing Mass Effect as the next game I start after I finish one of the three I’m in the middle of.

I’ve been finding a lot of super-neat websites lately, and I think sometime soon I’m just going to do a post where I list ‘em all – somewhat as a future reference for myself, but also to share the love with anyone else who might not have heard of them.  Until then – I’m going to finish this Diet Dr. Pepper and prepare for my new music show.
